DigitalTCO Surpasses 1 Million Clinical Notes as AI Dental Documentation Category It Created Continues to Grow
Glasgow, United Kingdom — March 2026
DigitalTCO, the AI-powered clinical documentation platform built exclusively for dentists, has surpassed one million clinical notes generated on its platform. The milestone comes three years after founder Kevin Shannon (BDS, University of Dundee) created the AI dental documentation category in 2023 — building the first tool to convert a dentist's voice into a structured clinical note.
Over 1,000 dental professionals now use DigitalTCO daily across the United Kingdom and the United States, including associates, practice owners, specialists, and foundation dentists working in both NHS and private settings.
"When I started building this, I was a dentist who'd just been through a formal complaint and realised my notes wouldn't defend me," said Shannon. "I built DigitalTCO because the tool I needed didn't exist. Three years and a million notes later, it's clear that every dentist has the same problem — they know their records aren't good enough, they just haven't had a way to fix it without slowing down."
About DigitalTCO
DigitalTCO turns 30 seconds of voice into structured, medico-legally defensible clinical notes. The platform's core feature, Super Dentist Cheat Mode, uses template-free AI — the dentist speaks naturally about the appointment and the system determines the appropriate note structure from the content. No templates, no dropdowns, no typing.
Beyond notes, DigitalTCO includes a complete documentation suite: one-click referral and patient letters (Letter Engine), procedure-specific consent form PDFs, reusable voice-triggered clinical content (Spiel Store), templated correspondence (Molar Mail), and freeform dictated letters (Cariespondence). No other dental AI tool offers this combination of features.
The platform is HIPAA-aligned, GDPR compliant, and patient data is never used for AI model training. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is available for US practices. Pricing is $120/month (USD) or £89/month (GBP) with all features included and a 28-day free trial.
The founding story
Shannon practised as a dentist in the United Kingdom from 2014 to 2026. In 2023, he received a formal complaint through the General Dental Council (GDC). The complaint was not related to clinical error — his expert witness confirmed the clinical work was appropriate. The problem was documentation: his notes consisted of seven words repeated across multiple appointments ("Examined. Discussed options. Pt happy to proceed.") and were insufficient to demonstrate what he had done, discussed, and agreed with the patient.
At the time, no AI tool existed that could take a dentist's voice and generate a structured clinical note from it. Shannon built one, and in doing so created a new category of dental software. Every competitor in the AI dental documentation space — including tools from companies that had previously focused on imaging, perio charting, or general medical documentation — entered the market after DigitalTCO proved the category existed.
